About HenRose Cares
Students from underserved communities are often encouraged to pursue the dream of college without being fully prepared for the financial realities that come with it. Too many arrive on campus with just a little, forced to navigate unexpected costs for basic necessities while trying to stay focused on their education. To survive, many take out additional student loans and for some, the financial strain becomes so overwhelming that they are forced to pause or abandon their college journey altogether.
HenRose Cares was created to change that story. Founded in 2020 by Tanisha Luckett, who personally experienced the burden of taking out extra student loans just to meet basic needs, our organization exists to ensure students don’t have to choose between surviving and succeeding. By providing essential support, HenRose Cares helps scholars remain enrolled, focused, and on track to reach the finish line.

Why HenRose Cares?
These essential needs, ranging from groceries, books, laptops, to transportation costs, are not covered by tuition or scholarships but are crucial for students well being and success. The inability to meet these needs can significantly hinder a student’s academic journey and ultimately prevent them from graduating.
For many low income students, the financial strain of these indirect expenses adds another layer of challenge to their pursuit of higher education. Without adequate support, students may face barriers that impede their ability to focus on their studies and fully engage in campus life. As a result, they may be at a higher risk of dropping out or not completing their degree programs.
Our key objectives are to:
- Support students from low-income communities who are currently enrolled in college or trade school
- Equip scholars with the essential resources they need to succeed academically and personally
- Reduce out-of-pocket costs for basic necessities, helping prevent financial hardship and interruptions to their education
